Equifax has notified Truescreen that they are adjusting rates industry-wide for their employment verification product, The Work Number.

2023 will see a variety of legislation going into effect regarding background screening and employment verification processes.

- Virginia Consumer Data Protection Act Becomes Effective January 1, 2023
Going into effect December 31, 2022, SB 1294 provides that an applicant for employment does not have to disclose certain criminal offense records.
Once effective, limited exceptions once available under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) will no longer be available.
Effective January 1, 2023, State Bill 731 expands the number of records that would meet eligibility criteria for sealing.
The Act will significantly impact how employers draft employment postings and report pay data to the state.
Effective January 1, 2023, HB 5261 will prohibit an employer from requesting or relying on an applicant's wage history when considering an applicant for employment or to determine the employee's salary.
Beginning January 1, 2023, E-Verify participation will be mandatory for private employers with more than 35 employees anywhere in the world that operate in Tennessee.
The CDPA will be enforced by the Virginia Office of the Attorney General and the office may seek injunctive relief or civil penalties in the event of non-compliance.
