SACRAMENTO, CALIFORNIA: Sacramento City Council extends “Ban the Box” to city vendors and contractors
Summary: The Sacramento City Council passed an ordinance prohibiting private vendors and contractors with the city of Sacramento from asking job applicants to disclose criminal convictions until the employer has determined the applicant meets the minimum employment qualifications stated in any notice issued for the position. The ordinance only applies to city contracts valued over $100,000 and provides an exemption for employees who are otherwise required by law to disclose criminal conviction history.

FAIR CREDIT REPORTING ACT: Dish Network agrees to settle FCRA class action for $1.75M
Summary: Dish Network has agreed to a $1.75 million settlement in a class-action suit alleging that it failed to properly disclose that background checks would be obtained and failed to provide pre-adverse action notices to contractors who were barred from performing any work for Dish Network because they were deemed “high risk.”
