NEBRASKA: New background check requirements for child care providers
Summary: Effective October 1, 2019, Bill 460 will require all potential new employees at licensed child care providers in the state to undergo expanded background checks, including FBI fingerprinting. In addition to undergoing a national criminal history record information check through the FBI, the employees must also undergo a National Sex Offender Registry search, as well as various state registry searches. Existing providers and provider staff have two years, until October 1, 2021, to complete full federal background checks. The law will also require that all child-care staff undergo federal background checks no less than once every five years.
