The Monroe County Legislature passed the Fair Chance Employment Act, banning employers in the county from asking about an applicant's criminal history. This restriction applies to questions posed in conversations, interviews and on application forms.
The bill does not apply to positions that legally require access to criminal histories, such as the Monroe County Sheriff's Office and the Children's Detention Center.
Monroe County employers are encouraged to review the terms of the Act and evaluate current policies and practices to determine if adjustments are required.
