Lorie Womsek submitted to a background check in 2012 after several years of volunteering in the Remer School District. Shortly after being informed that she was no longer an approved volunteer for the district, Womsek received a copy of her background check which included a charge for a vehicular homicide - a crime which she never committed. Aside from becoming ineligible to volunteer, she also claims that erroneous results damaged her reputation.
Despite the company who conducted the background check admitting to erring in regards to the charge, Womsek claims the school district has still not welcomed her back as a volunteer – a claim which the district flatly denies.
In light of the error and the lawsuit, CBS Minnesota reports the school district has ceased using the background check vendor responsible for conducting Womsek’s report.
